ImageToday has been a rather trying day.  And then I read this quote by Helen Keller and was suddenly snapped back to a bit of reality.

“Be of good cheer. Do not think of today’s failures, but of the success that may come tomorrow. You have set yourselves a difficult task, but you will succeed if you persevere; and you will find a joy in overcoming obstacles. Remember, no effort that we make to attain something beautiful is ever lost.” –Helen Keller

Perseverance  is all He ever asks of us.  He will not make a stack of your failures, except to walk to the top of them with you, and show you how absolutely far you have come.  My Bestie and I were talking day before yesterday about how we, as a species, are greedy and want what we want RIGHT NOW.  We are generally not willing to wait and if we do not receive the thing that we feel “should” be ours we are not afraid to throw a fit or two.  We then justify our fits with the fact that something is being with held from us and we are pretty sure that it feels a bit like torture.  We overlook the wonderful things that we have been given.  The small things are never thought of if, in our minds, they not add to the pay off we were hoping for or expecting. Do any of these sound familiar:

  • You go to work complaining because you have yet to get that job or promotion?  (Blessing Missed: You HAVE a job)
  • You really want to go on that trip…you miss seeing (insert thing you miss here) (Blessing Missed: You have money and time for that travel – so many are trying to pay rent, eat, or keep a light on)
  • You wish for the opportunity to have a new outfit, go out to eat etc (again see above blessing)
  • You wish for a better, newer, faster car (Blessing Missed: You (probably) already have some mode of transportation that works AND you know how to drive)
  • You can’t manage to get your friend’s and yours schedules to align for a lunch date, hang out etc . (Blessing Missed: You have at least 5-10 minutes a day to say hello, figure out that your schedules don’t yet align and pout.  Oh and you have the technology of a phone on which to do all this 🙂  <— uh yeah, this is mine

So my suggestion today, count the little blessings.  Don’t be deterred in what seems like an eternity of waiting.  As Helen suggests, find joy in the overcoming of obstacles.  Do not miss your life in the middle of all of your waiting.  Be grateful for all of the little blessings that in the end, most certainly and only if you let it, will add to a life quite brilliant.
